So, for the past few days, or really the past few weeks, I've been celebrating the birthday of my girlfriend. As expected, part of this celebrating has included lots of gift giving...as all good celebrations should.
In case you haven't noticed, I sometimes like to use my blog as a place for letting the world know how much I love some of the people in my life. Thus, I wanted to do a little birthday shout out for my lady...but this time, with a twist!
When I started considering doing a Movie Monday about love, I thought it seemed a little too obvious and not quite political enough. However, when I started writing and thinking about the topic I realized that love and relationships actually really underscore some of my fundamental points about politics. Things like honour and integrity are crucial to the proper functioning of both governments and relationships.
Given all this, our illustrious videographer William Matthews and I set out to take a quick look at how to make relationships last and what, if anything, this can tell us about politics.
Enjoy!
Also, special thanks goes out to my friends at It's the Icing on the Cake and Sweet Bliss bakeries, both for the locations to film, and the delicious sweets! If you like being happy and sweets, I highly recommend both places!

Awwww...so why, then is honesty so difficult in politics and relationships? Is it because we are too conditioned to respond to fear? We are too ego driven? Too desirous to be liked? Honesty takes courage, and we don't see a lot of examples of that in the media or in our lives, sadly.
I think it's a combination of things, but perhaps more importantly, I don't think it's at all new. Throughout our history, in both politics and relationships, honesty has been at a premium. In the end, I think there's a growing acceptance and permissiveness regarding dishonesty, and so this teaches people that it's ok. It then becomes a vicious circle.
