Justin Trudeau Excites People - And That's a Good Thing!

So, I've been following the recent chatter about Justin Trudeau (or JT as some people have come to call him, both ironically and not) with interest and a bit of a laugh. I thought that my writing about this was done with my previous post on the topic. However, I've now come to realize that I'll likely be writing about this a lot in the coming months, especially now that he has officially joined the leadership race. Sorry in advance to those that don't care.

Except, that I think most people in fact do care...at least a little. Love him or hate him, mention the name "Justin Trudeau" and people actually start listening and paying attention to politics. Which is why I've decided to post again today.

See, in reading some of the recent posts and articles I'm noticing some trends and one of them really bugs me. The trend sounds something like "anyone who likes Trudeau, or wants to consider his candidacy, is clearly an idiot." Obviously I'm paraphrasing, but you all know what I'm getting at. There are so many posts up right now it's almost impossible to get through them all, but I've done the google news search for you in case you want to start sifting.

Now, I'm not suggesting that JT's candidacy doesn't deserve real and serious scrutiny. Nor am I suggesting that JT doesn't need to shore up his résumé with some deeply considered policy position, even a few. I think it's very obvious that these things are absolutely necessary.

Instead, I want to remind the chattering class that being able to spark thought and debate among "everyday" people, who typically tune Ottawa out, is very rare and something to be celebrated! Yes, challenge these people to educate themselves, but telling them that they are idiots for even considering Trudeau is the kind of elitist arrogance that Ottawa is famous for.

Let the games begin!

I stepped back from the Libs due to Ignatieff, couldn't stand the guy! But my ears are perked up for Trudeau! Can't wait to see what is going to transpire :D

Thanks for commenting SDG! Something tells me you won't be the only person to say that...that's exactly my point: Trudeau gets people talking about politics. That's a good thing no matter what if you ask me. Here's another interesting take on the situation from a brilliant friend of mine: http://www.torontosun.com/2012/10/03/justin-trudeau-the-millennial-candidate
